IT’S OUR TURN (Literally In English For KAMI nAPO MUNA)

(September 19, 2006)

Apo Hiking Society has been in the Philippine music industry for decades now. They have quite a number of very good songs. The band is a legend.

To celebrate the band‘s 30th anniversary in the industry, some of the Philippines finest bands come up with a tribute album for them. The Kami nAPO Muna.

Before I got a copy of the CD, I have been seeing these bands (who were in the tribute album) performing their APO songs in the CD in some Philippine television programs. I must say that I then got excited in getting this CD.

Pumapatak Na Naman Ang Ulan has quite some funny lines just ike any other APO songs. And Parokya Ni Edgar‘s version is even more comical for me. I don’t know why but it must be the lead vocal Chito!

Kamikaze’s Doo Bidoo and Sponge Cola’s Nakapagtataka are I think better to listen to if they are doing it live. I just don’t kinda like their versions in the CD.

Drip’s Kabilugan Ng Buwan, Imago’s Ewan, Moonstar 88’s Panalangin, and Kitchie Nadal’s Pag-ibig are my most, most favorite. These female lead vocaled bands did so great with these songs. I listen to these songs almost everyday in the car, before I go to sleep, and while I’m getting ready for work. And it will take some time before I get tired of listening to these songs.

I strongly have to suggest that every Filipino buy this album. Because if they don’t, they are just missing so much good stuff. I have heard that the first week that the album was released, it already went platinum. So isn’t that a decent enough hint!

TRUE FAITH’S CROSS MY HEART

Wednesday, September 20th, 2006

(September 19, 2006)

My and my husband’s copy of True Faith’s new CD-Stray To Be Found together with some other new released CDs of some Filipino bands arrived on my birthday, September 7 from www.regal.com.

On our way to my birthday dinner in downtown Seattle, we listened to the CDs excitedly.

Stray To Be Found is not a bad CD. After all, it’s been quite some time since the band’s last album.

My favorite songs in the CD which are the band’s original are Sayang Ang Lahat, Dahil Ikaw, and Daydream (Kasalanan Ba?). The lyrics are just so good.

Some of the other songs are some kind of old easy listening songs rendered by the band. And they I must say, did justice reviving these songs. Oh these songs I’m talking about are You’re The Best Thing, Say A Prayer, and of course one of my fave songs in my life, CROSS MY HEART.

That song is almost the sole reason why I’m doing this review. I’m glad that they did that song! I love the song. Even the Evertyhing But The Girl orginal version of it. And I still love it now that True Faith sang to it. It’s sucha romantic song.

That I have to quote and agree to one of my closest friends from work then, Jonathan. He asked me one time what is the sweetest song I’ve heard. And I was like, I think it’s Sting’s When We Danced. And his was EBTG’s CROSS MY HEART. After hearing that, I checked the song immediately and had to just agree with him ‘cause it is indeed one sweet, sweet song. (I even remembered Jon while repeatedly listening to that song in the car on my birthday. There’s nothing special between me and Jon…we’re friends for Christ’s sake but yes, every time I hear CROSS MY HEART, it’s just connoted with Jon’s name!).

Here’s the lyrics and I hope you too will find it one sweet, sweet song…

Now and then
Do you wash your hands of me again?
Wish me anywhere but home
Drunk and on the end of your phone
From time to time
Do you guess what’s really on my mind?
Guess that How you keeping now?
Means Where are you sleeping now
But of course it’s not polite
To ask you where you spent last night
And if I did you might reply
That I have no right
And anyway I’m fine
Glad that you’re no longer mine
If I should tell a lie
I’ll cross my heart and hope to die
You’d be appalled
If you knew what I was doing
When you called
Yes, I can see I’m blundering
Always end up wondering
Will it ever be alright
To ask you where you spent last night
And can it be polite
The way we never write,
Of course I don’t have the time,
And anyway I’m fine
If I should tell a lie
I’ll cross my hear and hope to die
I hope we never die

THE LAST KISS (My Review. Sort Of)

(September 17, 2006)

Before I go on any further with this very simple review of mine for the movie, I probably will start this with one of the characters’ most important line:

"What you feel only matters to you. It’s what you do to those you say you love that matters."

THE LAST KISS is a movie about a certain fretfulness of the future of a domesticated couple–Michael (played by Zach Braff) and Jenna (portrayed by Jacinda Barrett). Michael thinks that he is leading a boring life at the age of 29. He is going to be a father to his perfect girlfriend Jenna, when he met Kim (Rachel Bilson) and realizes that everything in his life is so planned and that there are no more surprises for him.

I shall say that this is one of the best love storied film that I have seen. I like the story plot. I currently celebrated my Big 29th Birthday and I’m married and I could say that me and my husband have our own sort of arguments that I am not apparently telling here. But yes, I could relate so much to the flick.

The lead actor himself, Zach is nonetheless perfect for the role. And I also thought that at first that he wasn’t so hot. =) I remember too, having sympathetic feelings for him when he “did whatever it takes”, he stayed on his and Jenna’s porch for a couple days just so Jenna could realize how sorry he is for what he has done. The gay neighbor made me chuckle too, when he offered “sparkling” water to Michael while he was staying at the porch. And I also find the common friends that the couple have in the film very interesting people. So as Jenna’s parents. They all have their own share of problems with their lives but were able to fix it at the end while being very supportive of Michael and Jenna.

And the soundtrack. I like it that it has Imogen Heap’s Hide And Seek, Coldpaly’s Warning Sign, and ‘course, my favorite band right now Snow Patrol’s Chocholate.

TOUCHED BASE (With Jason and Anil)

(September 16, 2006)

It’s a hundred days before Christmas. And it’s my beloved Mom’s birthday today. I called her last night in our new home phone number in the Philippines. Anyways.

Yesterday, I got an unexpected phone call from a long lost friend, Jason Campita. We used to work together at PhilamCare in Manila, Philippines. It’s been years since we last talked with each other ever since we resigned (he did first). Jason is one fun person to be with whether in the office or outside of it. Now that he is in L.A. and I’m here in Seattle, it’s Friendster where we were able to “find” each other again and keep in touch. So far I got two hilarious voicemail messages from him since yesterday. I have to even say this because that’s just how funny he is. That even just his voicemail messages would send me laughing out loud.

This morning, another good Indian friend of mine called me up! Anil Hotchandani who is in Japan for five years now, has actually been trying to reach me since my Big 29th Birthday. It was just this day that he finally, finally got a hold of me. It’s great to still hear from him after a couple of years of not having been in touch with each other. We got to know each other when I was still in the Philippines through Richard, a close friend of mine who also worked in Japan with Anil. He’d call me regularly back then and he’s one sweet man. During our conversation earlier, he even invited me to come over to Japan for a vacay! Which is sooo great because it is an interesting place to visit, huh. Well, I got to make plans for that!

See how Friendster and Myspace work wonders to friends who have lost touch with each other. I am just glad to find my long lost friends.

And let me be the first to greet you: ADVANCE MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY!
