A Fan-Dilemma on the Eraserheads Reunion

One of my friends, Jocas, has this super huge dilemma on the much-talk about Eraserheads reunion — and I think it has lots to do about rumors that the concert’s gonna be open to the public (meaning free). Worries left and right on the fact that things might get unruly, and yeah, this might happen cause Ive been in this one concert (of a foreign artist, at that!) where the people seemed to have gotten into trance and started throwing bottles of plastic mineral water bottles on each other. lol.

Anyway, just wanna share it here cause I think others might have the same concern. So, here goes:

So it is true. The legendary band Eraserheads is having a 45-minute free reunion concert come August 30 at the CCP Grounds. The said band disbanded for six years and this upcoming occasion will most definitely mark a milestone in the Philippine music industry.

Kudos to friends who responded on my bulletin posts in Friendster and Myspace. (My Hubby heard the reunion concert as a rumour in his Eheads Yahoo Group. I then, posted and asked for confirmations from friends who might have heard valid information about this event on the earlier mentioned social networking websites.) These good friends of mine most of them in the Philippines, immediately shared facts which are absolutely handy as my Hubby and I are here in Seattle and have to make a decision whether we should come home to Manila for this reunion concert or, not to come home then.

Thus, I am posting this blog…as it is now the rally between "Yes" and "No"…

The first and foremost "Yes to come home" pro is NOW is the best time to show that Hubby and I are truly EHeads Aficionados! (Most especially hims!). Eventhough we now both reside outside the Philippines, we still patronize Filipino talents. We buy Tagalog DVD Films and CDs, read updates on Filipino artists, singers, and bands we like from their respective websites, even watch concerts of bands we like who tour here in Seattle, and we still watch Filipino TV programs through TFC regularly. And going back to being Eheads fanatic, we still often listen to their songs and have always wondered if the band will ever reunite. If there is any other way to stress how often we pull up their songs, then I would use that term! One weird fact though, some time a while ago, I had a hunch which I told my Hubby that EHeads will definitely get-together for a concert and we agreed then that when that happens, we will both come to Manila for that! Now my hunch is not just a hunch.

I could just imagine if ever we are able come to that concert…it would be a tremendously, exceptionally and insanely (in a good way) notable experience. I most definitely would get emotional and excited that it is going to be hair-raising for me…

So much for how elated I will be…

Well, according to one valid source, the said concert will be free! I have been to many, many concerts in my life. Most of them, of course, I have to pay for tickets. And I have been to a number of free shows as well. Let us just say that with my experiences, I would just rather pay for my tickets. Do not get me wrong, the best things in life are still free BUT if the involved performer/s could be categorized as "The Beatles of the Philippines" which is none other than Eraserheads…let me just quote one of my childhood friend, Loyva who was one of the firsts to fill me in on this event, "It will be a security and logistical nightmare given the expected turnout". And I couldn’t agree more with Loyva for that.

Besides, my one and only sibling is planning to get married late next year. And that is one more important and practical reason for me and my family to come home in the Philippines and save money for that.

So as for now, we still are in a limbo. It would be nice to touch base as well with family and friends in August but it would be nicer to have a more planned and prepared trip going back home for a few weeks later on.

And to my friends, do keep us posted about this happening. We would want to be the first ones to know which website we can go to to get a chance to win these free concert tickets. And I thank you in advance.

So there goes a word from an Eheads fan. And i think they’ve already made a decision — and that probably includes hoping for an Eraserheads reunion concert DVD to be released.

THE RALLY BETWEEN TO COME HOME OR NOT TO COME HOME FOR THE ERASEHEADS REUNION CONCERT

This entry was guest posted by my cousin Khristina Villacorta, a big fan of the Eraserheads and a true blue music junkie who listens to almost every genre of music from A Tribe Called Quest to Snow Patrol to Hed Kandi. She is now happily married and currently residing in Seattle Washington with her husband VJ and their lovely daughter Katrina Ysabel.

So it is true. The legendary band Eraserheads is having a 45-minute free reunion concert come August 30 at the CCP Grounds. The said band disbanded for six years and this upcoming occasion will most definitely mark a milestone in the Philippine music industry.

Secrecy surrounds rumored reunion

MANILA, Philippines—Who cares about an Eraserheads reunion concert?

From the rumors that started to circulate among blog sites and Internet chat groups early last week, the number of fans who have posted comments expressing their interest couldn’t have reached the hundreds.

But print media broke the story on Sunday and a TV newscast confirmed the rumors by quoting some of the band members. Suddenly, everybody seems to be talking about it.

Nothing official

There is no official announcement yet, although one Villy Ray Villacorta posted the following message on the Eraserheads mailing list, which was in turn reported by the website PhilMusic.com:

“Yes it’s true. It’s been in the works for several months … Marlboro is sponsoring this concert and paid … the members a staggering P10 million each to do a 45-minute set…Aug. 30, 2008…at the CCP open grounds… Tickets are free…you can download it early August. Website to be announced… One brand. One band…One night only…”

A band member was mentioned to have visited FM radio station Jam 88.3 in Ortigas and talked about the concert.

An update from PhilMusic’s Jim Ayson noted that the P10 million talent fee for each Ehead “appears to be bloated.” Quoting somebody “in the know,” Ayson said, “The figure is more in the neighborhood of P2 million each.”

Not for minors

That said, the next question is, where to get those free tickets? Again, there’s no official word on this, although PhilMusic says the link could be the website https://marlboro.ph (why all the secrecy?) which asks visitors to submit valid IDs to complete the registration form. Why the need for IDs? To prove that one’s not a minor, because the website is “for smokers 18 years and older…”

Does that mean that, on concert night (assuming that this is indeed a Marlboro-sponsored event), only smokers will be watching? Wouldn’t that pose a problem for non-smokers and people with respiratory problems, including Eheads drummer Raimund Marasigan (now front man of Sandwich), who’s said to be asthmatic? In fact, lead guitarist Marcus Adoro (now a solo artist with a well-received debut CD, “Surfernando”) is the only smoking Ehead, as far as we know.

TODO KAY POP MACHINE

Thursday, July 17th, 2008

As a tribute to Eraserheads’ Reunion Concert, I made a playlist of the legendary band’s songs in my iPOD and in my personal webpages.  And I have been pulling up the said playlist over and over since Monday, the 14th.  (That I remember how me and my friend/former officemate - Jenn would mock it everytime I heed to a certain song repeatedly - it’s like I have a contract with the artist/s that I have to play their songs in a recurrent manner!).

And as a matter of factly though, I got a text on Monday early evening from a friend here in Washington.  Vida, the sender, said she saw me driving and was jamming in the car when both our cars were on a stop on this certain road.  She tried calling me as my windows were rolled down but I did not hear her because the music coming from my vehicle was way too loud!  And yes, it was true.  That time she saw me, I was on my way to work and was listening to some EHeads songs!  =)

Pop Machine is just one of my shoo-ins EHeads songs among others.

That I’d say, "SINGLUTONG NG CHIPPY ANG BASS NG KANTANG ITO!"

Ihulog ang barya
Hilahin ang batuta sa pop machine
Hukayin ang bulsa
Laglagan ng pera sa pop machine

Jackpot
Dead lahat
Ang bigat
Todo kay pop machine

Halinat sumamba
Lahat ay may pag asa sa pop machine
Kaya ko tumaya
Sigurado bebenta sa pop machine

Jackpot
Dead lahat
Ang bigat
Todo kay pop mahcine

Kailan ba ako mag kaka pera
Kailan ba ako makikilala
Kailan ba ako mag kaka pera
Kailan ba ako makikilala
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Ihulog ang barya
Hilahin ang batuta sa pop machine
Hukayin ang bulsa
Laglagan ng pera sa pop machine

Jackpot
Dead lahat
Ang bigat
Todo kay pop machine
Pop machine

Kailan ba ako mag kaka pera
Kailan ba ako makikilala
Kailan ba ako mag kaka pera
Kailan ba ako makikilala

ERASERHEADS REUNION CONCERT ON AUG30… HOW TRUE?

Tuesday, July 15th, 2008
My Hubbs heard a rumour… EHEADS REUNION CONCERT ON AUG30! (Its our 7th civil wedding anniv). Is that true?, the concert??? Could anyone fill us up coz we need to book flights to Manila for that (and raise $$$$ too) =)

….Im oh sooo anxious. Hubby told me about it while we were in the car on the way home from Dicks in Seattle and i felt weird that my knees went jelly literally.

Now, one of my fave songs from this legendary (and my hubby’s ever favorite) band is my profile song.

~MASELANG BAHAGHARI~
